Nga Waka's name is taken from Nga Waka A Kupe (The Canoes of Kupe), the three hills, which lie like upturned canoes, forming a backdrop for the town of Martinborough. Nga Waka produce food-friendly wines that are built to last, emphasizing structure, texture and balance. Nga Waka Chardonnay is a rich, complex Martinborough Chardonnay showing intense ripe stone fruit flavours underpinned by subtle spicy and barrel fermentation characters, enhanced by a silky palate texture and a elegant lingering finish.

This wine has been made utilising the traditional techniques which have made the Chardonnay of the Burgundy region in France so famous. Pegasus Bay thus adopt a hands-off approach so that until the last, or blending, stage, the wine has largely made itself.

On the nose there are aromas of citrus, as well as honeydew melon and some stone fruit (peach and nectarine). In addition there is a hint of struck match which adds complexity and a flinty minerality. The palate is concentrated with refreshing acidity and a lingering finish.
