Picton Bay Sauvignon Blanc is a pure expression of Marlborough. It's fermented in stainless steel so no oaky or buttery characters are present to mask the intensely aromatic aromatics. It's a wine that's made in the vineyard.

Benjamin de Rothschild had the real desire to create his own Sauvignon Blanc. He purchased around 24 hectares of vineyard, ideally situated on the prestigious Rapaura Road, in the heart of the Marlborough region of New Zealand. This area's cool climate is perfect for ripening high quality Sauvignon Blanc grapes and providing them with their typical lemon and grapefruit flavours, together with crisp acidity.

Flavours of passionfruit, grapefruit and crisp green apple with a salty minerality. Pale green in colour. Intense tropical aromas of passionfruit, grapefruit and green apple with a hint of jalapeño pepper. Herbaceous, rich and weighty with flavours of white stone fruit, grapefruit pith and blackcurrant. The palate has a generous mouthfeel with a salty minerality and a clean fresh finish.

Rows are planted north-east to south-west at a 43 degree angle rather than the typical north to south. This leads to slightly greener characters in grapes on the south facing side and more tropical characters in grapes on the north facing side. The resulting wine is therefore multi-dimensional and complex. The site is cooler than some other areas of the valley and hence slower to ripen. The distinguishing flavours are crushed herbs (often associated with the coastal Awatere region) and an absence of sweaty characteristics.

As Winemakers, Stoneleigh are able to capture the natural early ripening characteristics of the Rapaura sub-region appellation, harvesting the grapes early with a full flavour profile to make a range of wines that are 25% lower in alcohol. This wine opens with bright aromas of grapefruit and capsicum, which follow through to the palate, joined by gooseberry, passionfruit and lime flavours. The wine is refreshingly dry, yet soft and approachable; light in body and big on flavour, with crisp lime notes, lasting long on the finish.

In Stoneleigh's Marlborough vineyards, sunstones absorb sunshine during the day, radiating heat onto the vines at night, resulting in their distinctly vibrant wines. Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc displays fresh and varietally true aromas of passionfruit and cut grass. On the palate, vibrant citrus fights to burst through before a succulent and crisp finish.
