In 1842 a 32-year-old Blacksmith, Christian Auricht, arrived from Prussia with his wife and four children. He settled in the new village of Langmeil and established a forge in what was to become a thriving trading post. His original smithy remains to this day and is a feature of the winery's heritage setting.

All the characteristics of the distinctive new word are captured in Mud House's South Australian wines. A beautifully structured, juicy Cabernet Sauvignon featuring black currant, mulberry and vanilla bean aromas, complemented by spicy plum flavours and a lovely, long finish.

Often known as 'Baby Grange', Bin 389 was first created by legendary Penfolds winemaker Max Schubert in 1960, combining the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the richness of Shiraz. The 2022 vintage pays homage to that enduring style, opening with classic aromas of cigar box, mahogany, sweet oak spice, summer berries and fresh pastry. The palate is generous and deeply layered, with cool Cabernet fruit, plum, blackberry, mulberry and tart Morello cherry framed by cocoa-like tannins and subtle barrel-ferment notes. A touch of sourdough adds savoury depth, while the balance of fruit and oak gives this iconic Australian red the structure to reward cellaring through to 2050.

Inspired by the iconic Bin 707, Penfolds Bin 407 was created to showcase the character of exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon, bringing together ripe fruit, structure and carefully integrated French and American oak. The 2022 vintage opens with an intriguing mix of graphite, pencil shavings and crème de cassis, layered with wild herbs, violets and sweet spice. Rich and expansive on the palate, lush blackcurrant takes centre stage, supported by balanced tannins, fresh acidity and well-integrated oak. A subtle note of sarsaparilla adds an unexpected twist to the lingering finish, making this a compelling Cabernet with the structure to reward cellaring through to 2040.

The Cabernet Sauvignon grape varietal is widely planted across South Australia's premium wine regions, particularly in the Limestone Coast where grapes with tremendous structure and beautiful aromatics are found. Well-regarded since its launch in 2002, the Koonunga Hill Cabernet Sauvignon showcases the merits of multi-regional blending to Penfolds 'House Style'. A bold, full bodied wine displaying lovely aromatics, excellent structure, and great length.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon parcels sourced from vineyards throughout the Barossa. The fruit is fermented for up to 14 days, then aged for 12 months in a mix of French and American oak. Individual parcels of fruit are matured separately to maximise the blend's complexity and finalised through a selection process. The resulting wine is rich and concentrated with aromas of ripe dark berry fruits, blackcurrants and plums with mint and varietal leafy notes. The palate is plush with flavours balanced by fine, textural tannins.

The grapes were picked at between 13.5 to 14.0 Baume to produce the fruit flavours that are required to make this great wine. The grapes were fermented in a mixture of vessels to produce as much colour and flavour as possible. Portion of the wine underwent oak during fermentation and once dry, the remaining went to oak until the right balance was achieved. Careful tasting and blending, by Quarisa's winemaker, help produce this wine of style and great value for money.

Deep ruby in colour, this Cabernet Sauvignon opens with rich, concentrated aromas of ripe dark cherry, blackberry, cocoa, and sweet spices. Soft, chewy tannins lead to a long, lush finish. Ageing select lots in bourbon whiskey barrels enhances the finish of smoke, sweet spice, and cocoa when added to the final blend. A superb accompaniment to bourbon-glazed grilled meats, charcuterie boards, hearty pasta dishes, and strong cheeses.

This is a wine of great intensity. It has distinctive blackcurrant and cassis fruit flavours. Subtle oak characters of cedar cigar box and spice are also evident. The tannins are fine and elegant - a hallmark of the varietal. The palate is well balanced, complex and fulfilling and lingers on the finish.

This is a rich full-bodied wine yet at the same time, remains in balanced across the palate with fine, elegant tannins – the hallmark of great Cabernet.
